Christmas – is it me or…

My mother used to declare every year that Christmas got earlier and earlier but I think that even she might have been surprised by this year. We have actually got our Christmas lights up (and working!) in the streets around us in the first week of November. This means that for two months of the year (or 1/6th for those of you without a calculator about your person) it is Christmas. Have I strayed by mistake into the land of the Snow Queen through our wardrobe ? I was packing away summer clothes in it last weekend… If this is the case then perhaps we are destined for the Great Day never to actually arrive, just the perpetual grey drizzle and fog that normally befalls the land in the month of November. Can you imagine, living in the permanent state of frenetic shopping and exhaustion that always seems to proceed the Day itself, together with a relentless menu of mince pies, turkey and left overs (although possibly not this year). and the Christmas carols… and the pine needles…

No – I'll tell you what – we'll cancel Christmas this year, snooze through the winter and wake in time for next November. Now where were those Christmas lights?

All in favour of hibernating like hedgehogs, say "aye"!

The earliest I've ever seen Christmas decorations go up is September. Some people just can’t wait!
